An alert was issued by the sheriff's office on Thursday advising that 19-year-old Jaden Xzavier Mason, who has no fixed address, has been arrested and charged with drug and weapon charges during the investigation into two men who attempted to steal a vehicle in Lexington Park.
The incident was reported on Wednesday morning in the 21000 block of South Essex Drive.
According to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, the woman told responding deputies that her vehicle had been locked and left running while she went to the business, and when she got back outside, there were two people attempting to force their way into it.
The woman was able to provide a description of the pair, leading to an investigation and extensive search that led to Mason's arrest in a nearby neighborhood.
At the time he was apprehended, Mason was found to be in possession of suspected crack cocaine and a fixed-blade weapon.
Mason was charged with attempted theft of $1,500 to less than $25,000, possession of burglar's tools with intent to use in the commission of a crime, CDS: possession – not cannabis, CDS: possession of paraphernalia, and related offenses
A second suspect, who was caught on camera but has not been identified, was able to get away. He was described as being a young, Black man wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.
The incident remains under investigation.
